Talia Scherquist, Commissioner

Parent and Consumer

I am a stay-at-home mother of two little girls, and it’s the best job I’ve ever had. I hold a bachelor’s in Child Development from Chico State and a Master’s in Family Support and Parenting Education from Wheelock College in Boston. My professional experience includes over ten years working in social service like family support home visiting programs, early childhood education, and domestic violence victim advocacy. My husband is a nurse at the hospital and together we have made Butte County our home since 2004.

Serving on the Commission is an honor, as I have followed First 5’s involvement in our community and have seen clients get valuable help through funded programs. I have also personally benefited from the Commission’s funding through the Babies Love Books program at the Butte County Library. I first took my oldest daughter there when she was three months old and now I have the pleasure of taking my youngest. We continue to enjoy the weekly children’s programs at the library and have met many friends there. And I can say that both of my children truly do love books!
