Dr. Lourdes Valdez

Dr. Lour­des Valdez was born and raised in Peru. She came to the Unit­ed States for pedi­atric train­ing after com­plet­ing med­ical school at Uni­ver­si­dad Peru­a­na Cayetano Here­dia in Lima, Peru. Valdez trained as a pedi­a­tri­cian at South­ern Illi­nois Uni­ver­si­ty in Spring­field, Illi­nois, and at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Iowa Hos­pi­tal and Clin­ics in Iowa City, Iowa.
Her husband’s job brought her to Oroville, Cal­i­for­nia, where she start­ed work­ing at Oroville Hos­pi­tal and was involved in inpa­tient and out­pa­tient pedi­atric care. In 2002, Valdez moved her pedi­atric prac­tice to Feath­er Riv­er Trib­al Health in Oroville and con­tin­ued to work in Oroville Hos­pi­tal for ten years. She par­tic­i­pat­ed in many com­mu­ni­ty projects and vol­un­teer activ­i­ties, and in 2010 she became a US citizen.

Since 2013, Valdez has worked at Enloe Hos­pi­tal in Chico, Cal­i­for­nia, and at an FQHC Pedi­atric Clin­ic. She has held lead­er­ship roles at the clin­ic and hos­pi­tal lev­els dur­ing her career, Valdez has been instru­men­tal in imple­ment­ing evi­dence-based prac­tices, pro­mot­ing breast­feed­ing, child nutri­tion, flu­o­ride var­nish, pho­to screen­ing, for­mal devel­op­men­tal, and post­par­tum and ado­les­cent screen­ings, and inter­ven­tions, col­lab­o­rat­ing with local and aca­d­e­m­ic orga­ni­za­tions. She has been active in the Reach Out and Read lit­er­a­cy pro­gram, the Amer­i­can Acad­e­my of Pedi­atrics Bright Futures rec­om­men­da­tions, and recruit­ing new pedi­a­tri­cians for the com­mu­ni­ty. Valdez enjoys teach­ing and has trained nurse prac­ti­tion­ers, physi­cian assis­tants, and med­ical students.

Valdez is mar­ried to an incred­i­ble, sup­port­ive hus­band and is the moth­er of two fan­tas­tic young adults. She enjoys hik­ing, Cross­Fit, gar­den­ing, book club, friends, and trav­el­ing. She com­plet­ed her Mas­ter in Pub­lic Health at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Cal­i­for­nia, Berke­ley in June 2021, and con­tin­ues to work as a gen­er­al pedi­a­tri­cian, hos­pi­tal­ist, and as of July 2021 as a Com­mu­ni­ty Health Projects cham­pi­on work­ing at Feath­er Riv­er Trib­al Health in Oroville.
