DR. LOURDES VALDEZ
MD, MPH, Board Certified Pediatrician, Feather River Tribal Health
Dr. Lourdes Valdez was born and raised in Peru. She came to the United States for pediatric training after completing medical school at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru. Valdez trained as a pediatrician at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois, and at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.
Her husband’s job brought her to Oroville, California, where she started working at Oroville Hospital and was involved in inpatient and outpatient pediatric care. In 2002, Valdez moved her pediatric practice to Feather River Tribal Health in Oroville and continued to work in Oroville Hospital for ten years. She participated in many community projects and volunteer activities, and in 2010 she became a US citizen.
Since 2013, Valdez has worked at Enloe Hospital in Chico, California, and at an FQHC Pediatric Clinic. She has held leadership roles at the clinic and hospital levels during her career, Valdez has been instrumental in implementing evidence-based practices, promoting breastfeeding, child nutrition, fluoride varnish, photo screening, formal developmental, and postpartum and adolescent screenings, and interventions, collaborating with local and academic organizations. She has been active in the Reach Out and Read literacy program, the American Academy of Pediatrics Bright Futures recommendations, and recruiting new pediatricians for the community. Valdez enjoys teaching and has trained nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical students.
Valdez is married to an incredible, supportive husband and is the mother of two fantastic young adults. She enjoys hiking, CrossFit, gardening, book club, friends, and traveling. She completed her Master in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley in June 2021, and continues to work as a general pediatrician, hospitalist, and as of July 2021 as a Community Health Projects champion working at Feather River Tribal Health in Oroville.
