Dr. Tony Hob­son is the Butte Coun­ty Behav­ioral Health Direc­tor

Dr. Tony Hob­son was appoint­ed the Direc­tor of Behav­ioral Health for Butte Coun­ty in July 2026. Pri­or to this appoint­ment he served as the Direc­tor of Behav­ioral Health in Colusa, Plumas, Sut­ter, and Yuba Coun­ties from 2014 to 2026. Dur­ing this time, he served as con­tribut­ing fac­ul­ty at Walden Uni­ver­si­ty from 2006 to 2023. He received a guber­na­to­r­i­al appoint­ment with the Coun­cil on Crim­i­nal Jus­tice and Behav­ioral Health in 2018 and served in this role until 2025. He Co-Chaired the Crim­i­nal Jus­tice Com­mit­tee for the Coun­ty Behav­ioral Health Direc­tors Asso­ci­a­tion of Cal­i­for­nia from 2016 through 2019. Dr. Hob­son pre­vi­ous­ly held posi­tions at Butte Coun­ty Depart­ment of Behav­ioral Health, includ­ing Senior Pro­gram Man­ag­er, Pro­gram Man­ag­er and Psy­chol­o­gist and has served as a psy­chol­o­gist at the Cal­i­for­nia Depart­ment of Cor­rec­tions and Reha­bil­i­ta­tion. Dr. Hob­son earned a Doc­tor of Phi­los­o­phy degree in clin­i­cal psy­chol­o­gy from Walden Uni­ver­si­ty, a Mas­ter of Arts degree in edu­ca­tion with an empha­sis in mul­ti­cul­tur­al coun­sel­ing from San Diego State Uni­ver­si­ty, and a Bach­e­lor of Sci­ence in Psy­chol­o­gy from the Uni­ver­si­ty of La Verne.
