Accom­pa­ny­ing his grand­moth­er, uncle and aunt, Seng S. Yang came to the Unit­ed States of Amer­i­ca in 1989 as a refugee after the Viet­nam War, with a lim­it­ed Eng­lish back­ground. Sen­g’s fam­i­ly moved to Oroville, where he has lived since.

After com­plet­ing his under­grad­u­ate stud­ies at Chico State with a BA in Lib­er­al Stud­ies in 1999, Seng earned an MA in Edu­ca­tion from Field­ing Grad­u­ate Uni­ver­si­ty in 2004. He now serves as Direc­tor for the Hmong Cul­tur­al Cen­ter of Butte Coun­ty. Seng lives with his wife and enjoys walks and work­ing in his garden.
