Do you have a great program idea or are you looking for funds to support programs and services that your agency provides? The first 5 butte county children and families commission is pleased to offer training and technical assistance to its partners to support their efforts in expanding programs and services for 0-5 children and their caregivers

Grant Writing & Fund Development Assistance is Available!

Qualified organizations can receive training, technical assistance and proposal support from an experienced grant writer.

The following assistance can be provided:

  • Proposal/concept development
  • Training about searching for funding
  • Understanding grant requirements and determining feasibility/eligibility
  • Data coaching; how to request public records
  • Document review and editing
  • And more...

Eligibility: Must have a direct benefit to 0-5 children; Must have an identified program/service that needs funding, or Must have an RFP that you are planning to respond to; Must have the time and resources to fully participate in the trainings and write the grant; Must have the organizational capacity to receive funds and implement programs/services; Must have a reliable track record with First 5 Butte County of following through with commitments and contractual requirements.

New Parent Kits

New Parent Kits are provided by First 5 California at no-cost to families and partner agencies.

Kits are currently being offered digitally and can be accessed on the First 5 California website.

All children are born to grow, to develop, to live, to love, and to articulate their needs and feelings for their self-protection.

No-cost portable cribs

Contact the Butte County Department of Public Health at (530) 552-4047 for information about no-cost portable cribs, available for families who qualify for WIC or Medi-Cal and who need a safe sleep environment for their infant.

No-cost child safety car seats and bicycle helmets

Contact the Butte County Department of Public Health for information about no-cost child safety car seats and bicycle helmets for the whole family at (800) 339-2941.

Oral hygiene kits, nutrition education materials and tobacco cessation materials

Contact the Butte County Department of Public Health at (530) 552-3882 to learn about how your agency can receive free oral hygiene kits, nutrition education materials and tobacco cessation materials for your families, and to learn about the other educational supports and services they can provide to the families you serve.

Emergency Supplies

The Commission receives emergency supplies such as diapers, cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment, for families and agencies during disasters and pandemics. Contact Commission staff to make sure your agency is on our supply distribution list and to find out if supplies are currently available.


First 5 Butte Newsletter

Every month First 5 Butte staff sends out a newsletter that contains information about upcoming trainings, funding opportunities, outreach events, and covers Commission information. This newsletter was created as a way to share important information staff receives with all of our community partners.

Supportive Resources for Families

Help Me Grow Butte

A no-cost service available to all families in Butte County with children aged 0-5 who are interested in learning more about their child’s development or behavior. Help Me Grow Butte works directly with caregivers to ensure they are connected to the services and resources they need so their children can grow and thrive.

National Parent & Youth Hotline

Provides vital information, support, and referrals through calls, texts, and chats to diverse parents, children, and youth seeking help nationwide. The National Parent & Youth Helpline is operated by Parents Anonymous and will be available 24/7 beginning January 2, 2024.

Small Moments Big Impact

A free App created by health care providers and caregivers designed to be used during baby’s first six months. The App focuses on the caregiver child relationship and feelings of love, stress, fatigue, frustration and hope- all of which are part of being a caregiver.

Text4Baby

A free text platform that sends positive messages that promote parent and child health and development.
